This was Simon Pegg's first feature film appearance. In this movie Vincent Cassel plays a man about to marry 'the most famous Italian movie actress in the world'. In reality, Cassel is married to Monica Bellucci, arguably the most famous Italian movie actress in the world. When he was interviewed about the film, Rik Mayall said that he considered the film as a 25th anniversary film, as production on 'Guest House Paradiso' commenced about 25 years after Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson first met each other at university, which led them to becoming real life best friends and a comedy duo.
This film features possibly the longest vomiting scene ever put on film, lasting for about 10 minutes. In the original promotional campaign for Guest House Paradiso's cinema release Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson explicitly stated that it was 'not Bottom' (hence the name differences and other inconsistencies with series in the movie) but they also said that they have pretty much always played the same characters for years (The Young Ones (1982), Filthy Rich & Catflap (1987), and Bottom (1991)) and this was just a new set. Perhaps the films not-so-stratospheric box office success caused the studio to add 'The Bottom Movie' on its video release. When Eddie brings Gino to Gina's hotel room, Eddie asks Gino to mind his language and states that Richie and himself are trying to keep the film PG rated, when Gino calls him a 'Dead Motherf*****'. That was a joke that was written to poke fun at the film's 15 rating in the United Kingdom. The film is given the 15 certificate for it's comic violence, profanity, sexual content and gross humor. The 'Bottom' TV show, which the film is a spin-off, was given the 15 certificate when it was released on VHS and DVD.
