(II) CIRRUS(0): Configured Monitor: Using hsync range of 31.50-37.90 kHz (.) (II) CIRRUS(0): Not using default mode '1024x768' (hsync out of range) To fix this, edit /etc/X11/xorg.conf and add eg. A HorizSync 31.5-90 line in the 'Monitor' section. Restart the X server (either via sending a Ctrl+Alt+Backspace key sequence to the guest or by restarting GDM in the guest). Now the default screen resolution will be 1280x800 if you use the KVM default for video card in the guest (which is 'cirrus' -ie. A Cirrus CLGD5446- for Debian Lenny guests in Ubuntu Lucid's KVM). Attachment Size 633 bytes. My setup sounds similar to what you describe.

Cirrus Logic GD5446 in FC2?, >poly-p man >>P.S. >Knoppix uses 'gd5446' The X.org driver is called 'cirrus'. Timesys-Logic Linux Alliance.
When I connect to the NX server on the machine I get all the resolutions I need. However, when I connect to x11vnc I cannot seem to get any better than 1024 x 768. All attempts at modifying the xorg.conf file seem to have no effect at all. I really prefer the vnc connection so any suggestions to getting more screen space would be greatly appreciated. The details of my setup, which I don't completely understand, are: The system is a virtual machine, so it has emulated hardware. The emulated video driver is: 00:02. Chithi Serial Climax Episode. 0 VGA compatible controller: Cirrus Logic GD 5446 The hypervisor is linux KVM And the xml startup file for the vm video is.
Thanks in advance for any good ideas you may have! Rjl@ubuntu-gamer2:~$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Then you can apply my original hack (setting the frequencies and the modes) through a custom xorg.conf. I've attached a minimalistic xorg.conf for use with the 'vga' libvirt video driver (which translates to the 'std' kvm -vga parameter).
Try it and let me know if it works for you. Note that even with these settings/config the default mode is 1024x768. But this time I could change the resolution in the system settings to higher res. I tested only 1280x1024, because my physical screen (on the computer where I was running virt-manager to connect to the VM) size was 1650x1080 and modes with higher vertical resolutions would have not fit on my screen.
