I have a large project that was built with VS 2008 and don't want to upgrade the project to a 2010 version just yet. I have VS 2008 Express but the trial period expired and it's installed in a computer with no access to the internet. To get the registration key I only know of clicking the link in VS 2008 to get to the registration page. But is there a place I can go where Microsoft can provide the key from just logging in from an online computer with my Live account so I can copy that to my offline computer?

Hi arb223, Welcome to the MSDN. This is technically not the appropriate forum for this question but I can still help you out. Honestly, VB 2008 and VB 2010 are similar and not much different IMO.
With the registration process, it is not much different whether or not you are buying VB 2008 or doing the student registration for free access to VB. Parrillo Nutrition Program more. My suggestion which I am unsure if it would work is to create a Windows Live ID (Hotmail/Live account) and use one computer to generate a key using the instructions from here. This is VB 2010, but I believe they are the same instructions. Here's what I would do: • Create a Windows Live ID • In VB 2008, click Help >Register Product >Obtain Registration Key Online • After you complete the online registration, a Product Registration Key popup window will appear. Copy and Paste this key into the VB 2008 Registration window. Then click Register Now. • TRY using this Registration Key for all the computers.
I'm unsure if Microsoft has limitations on this and prevent you from doing so, if that is the case, then you must proceed to do it for every computer. I'm also unsure of your setup. If your setup is a network using one VB program with many different logins then that would be different I believe from installing VB on 16 different computers. The more information that is provided, the more we can help you here at MSDN. Also you mentioned Windows Live Login, are you meaning like logging in to Messenger or Hotmail in general (through URL). If you can access Hotmail, then it doesn't make sense on why this would be difficult even if you have to generate 16 keys. As far as I know, I'm pretty sure I was able to register my VB 2010 with my GMail account.
I also recently reformatted my computer and lost VB 2010. I simply retyped my Registration Key and it worked. I'm unsure if it was because I was only using the key on one computer and that the key wasen't in use at the time or if it was because I had a key that worked on multiple systems. I hope this helps. Feel free to reply with any additional help but be aware that this forum, Visual Basic General, is usually mean'tfor VB.Net language.
